Reunions are an opportunity for alumni to give back to Northwestern – through multi-year pledges, planned gifts and other stretch gifts. It is also a time non-donors can show their appreciation and support by making a participatory gift.
Alumni in their reunion year can allocate their gift to any area of the University (school, athletics, library, Block museum, activity, or other funds). Contributions to the professional schools also count toward the undergraduate reunion class gift. The following types of gifts when made during the campaign are automatically credited to the class gift total.
-Outright Gifts
-Matching Gifts
-Leadership Multi Year Pledges – Reunion participants who make a five year leadership pledge of $5000 or more ($1500 or more for 5th reunion participants) can count the entire pledge total towards their class gift. If spouses are in the same reunion year, each will be acknowledged as a donor. Spouses celebrating reunions in different years can count their contribution towards both reunions.
-Planned Gifts – With irrevocable gifts such as gift annuities and charitable remainder trusts, the full amount of the gift is credited toward the class gift goal. Revocable gifts such as bequests and remainder interests in retirement plans may be discounted based upon the donor's age at the time the commitment is disclosed in writing to Northwestern. -Participatory gift- A gift of any amount that helps the University improve its alumni giving rates, an important factor in college rankings.
Success of reunion gift campaigns would not be possible without the work and dedication of the reunion committees. Thank you to all of our 2009 committee members. Reunion volunteers encourage classmates to participate in reunions by making a gift and attending reunion weekend events. For more information on committee membership, or to become a reunion volunteer, please contact your Northwestern reunion class officer.
