| Janet Pierrehumbert and the NICO Language Music and Communication Group, in conjunction with TiZ Media's MindRap program, are recipients of an inaugural Motorola Innovation Generation Grant. The project brings together college students in Northwestern's Summer Research Opportunity Program with local high-schoolers. The end product of this endeavor will be a multi-media journey tracing communication signals through time and space. Beginning with the talking drums of Africa and ending with transmissions through the global telecommunications network, human communication will be analyzed as acoustic waves, brain activity and network packets.
