| Attracting accomplished and ambitious undergraduates means Northwestern must make it possible for all qualified students to attend the University, regardless of financial circumstances. Because the admissions process is rigorous and highly selective, any student invited to enroll has already demonstrated the highest possible merit. Therefore, all undergraduate financial aid is awarded on the basis of need. |
Northwestern maintains a strong commitment to developing individualized financial aid packages for each student. Based on outright grants, loans, and part-time work, these funding packages help to support 60 percent of our undergraduate students.

Because the University is firm in its resolve to continue a financial aid policy based on need, it faces an increasing requirement to building endowment specifically for undergraduate scholarships. The resources that Northwestern draws upon for its financial aid packages include the University's own funds, federal and state monies, and other private sources. Over the last two decades, more and more of the University's own funds (general operating funds, unrestricted gifts, gifts for scholarships, and income from endowment specifically designated for scholarships) have been necessary to help families bridge the gap. |

Donors who contribute to scholarships at Northwestern University make an important investment in the future. Our graduates continue to go on to positions of leadership in business, academic, and political settings. Students are enormously grateful for scholarship support and will always remember the gifts that enabled them to afford their education. We hope you will consider making a difference this year for students at Northwestern.
- Create a Named Scholarship
Named endowed scholarship funds start at $50,000 and may be used to benefit categories of students who are of particular interest to the donor, including the following areas:
- Academic
- Special Programs
- Community Service
- Athletics
- National Service Scholarships
- Educational Service
- Loan Forgiveness Programs
- Residential College Scholarships
At lower levels, you may also contribute to the general undergraduate scholarship endowment.
- Make an Annual Gift
Annual gifts supporting unrestricted scholarships are especially useful to the President and deans as they enable Northwestern to continue to attract and enroll the best and brightest students who apply, regardless of financial circumstances.
